Welcome to “DIY’ Birthday Parties! On a budget! The idea is to be able to throw an awesome birthday party- without having to hire someone or break the bank!
My niece decided she wanted to do a Groovy Birthday Party for her 9th birthday and my sister was so excited for this theme! She decided to incorporate it into a Cake Decorating Party, where each girl got an individual cake to decorate and the kids loved it! Let the party planning begin!
My go to stores for inspiration: Dollar Tree, Walmart, Amazon, Target- Most reasonable prices!
Setting up for the party:
The table cloth came in a pack of 3 (6 an option as well!) and the banner/backdrop were both purchased off of Amazon. Smiley Face Balloons also made a nice touch 😊
Cake Decorating– Each girl got an individual round 2 layer cake to decorate! It was time consuming baking all the cakes so she had to do that a day in advance. She had 10 piping bags with different color icing- white, peach and pink, so each girl had an option without having to wait. Each girl also got a disco ball to drink out of with some juice inside (which double dutied as part of the favor that they could take home!) It was so cute seeing each girl decorate their cakes using their individual creativity 😊

Food Ideas- Smiley Potatoes, Fruit Peace Sign, Flower Sugar Cookies, Butter Cookies and More!
The fruit “Peace Sign” consisted of clementines, strawberries, raspberries and grapes. This was an easy one to put together- just need a round plate and position all the fruit into the peace sign.
Favors- Backpacks and bracelets. Each girl got to bring home their cake to share with their family at a later time and again… their disco ball cup! “ 😊
How cute is my niece? Loved her outfit- especially the headband! My sister ordered the pants off of Amazon as well. I got my daughters outfit at Walmart! It ended up being perfect after the “groovy cousin” t–shirt I ordered didn’t come in time!

I love using theme Quotes for decoration for parties. Printing a quote and putting it in a frame can be the perfect (and free!) décor- Dollar tree usually has white frames that are perfect!
