Our little sport is one! That was the theme of our son’s first birthday party, and boy, was it a blast! Our backyard was transformed with a baseball diamond and homemade dugout. My dad even drew the chalk lines to really make it authentic! From the decorations to the snacks, everything was designed with our little sports fan in mind.
A Sports Themed First Birthday Party
The party kicked off with adorable #1 chocolate melt lollipops with sugar sports balls to accent them. These sweet treats were a hit with all the kids (and adults too!)
My mom makes these handmade banners for all my parties. She has a paper cutter that can cut out different letters very quickly. It is called an Alphabet Punch Board! It comes in very handy for every party! I printed a football, soccer, basketball and baseball and added them to the ends!
We also had fun favors for our young guests, including popcorn, cracker jacks, Big League Chew, and mini baseballs. It was a fun way to thank our friends and family for celebrating our little one’s big milestone.
The highlight of the day was definitely the sports cake. Our talented baker (my sister!) created a masterpiece with edible (fondant) soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, and baseballs all over it. Our son couldn’t wait to dive into his very own sports-themed cake, and it tasted as good as it looked. She also made cupcakes with green “grass” frosting topped with the sugar sports balls. It was the perfect centerpiece for our little sports star’s celebration.
To keep our little guests fueled up for all the fun and games, we set up a homemade concession stand with all their favorite snacks. I created the menu in Canva, with a football field border and listed all the “food” being served. There were hot dogs, nachos, pretzels, fruit cups, and veggie sticks to choose from. The kids loved feeling like they were at a real sports game, and the concession stand added an extra element of excitement to the party.
The backyard was decked out with a mini baseball dugout complete with a scoreboard and banners celebrating our son’s first year. We even had a little soccer goal and basketball hoop set up for the kids to play with. It was a sports lover’s dream come true, and our little one was beaming with joy the whole time.
As the day came to a close, we were filled with gratitude for the wonderful memories we had created. Our son’s first birthday party was a celebration of our love for sports and a reflection of our family’s shared passion for athletics. It was a day filled with laughter, fun, and lots of love, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to mark this special milestone.
